Guy Br. Consolmagno Presents “Religion, Science and the Common Good” on March 20 at 7 PM

Ohio Dominican University will welcome Brother Guy Consolmagno, S.J. on March 20 as he presents “Religion, Science and the Common Good.” The free presentation will take place at 7 p.m. in the Colonial Room, which is located in Sansbury Hall on ODU’s campus, 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus, 43219. The event is open to the public.

Br. Consolmagno is the director of the Vatican Observatory and president of the Vatican Observatory Foundation. He is widely published in a variety of academic journals, having written extensively on the topics of astronomy, faith and science. His research explores the connections between meteorites and asteroids, and the origin and evolution of small bodies in the solar system.

Br. Consolmagno previously served as an assistant professor of Physics at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and on the governing boards of numerous professional organizations. After taking vows as a Jesuit Brother in 1991, he studied philosophy and theology at Loyola University Chicago, and physics at the University of Chicago. He was assigned to the Vatican Observatory in 1993.

Br. Consolmagno received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Planetary Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earned a Ph.D. in Planetary Science from the University of Arizona. He has been named a Fellow of the Meteoritical Society, received honorary doctorates from Georgetown University and Santa Clara University, and was awarded the Carl Sagan Medal for Outstanding Communication by an Active Planetary Scientist to the General Public from the American Astronomical Society Division for Planetary Sciences.
